Microsoft introduces new logo for the first time in 25 years

Microsoft might be innovative in many ways, but its logo is not one of them – and why change the good old easily recognizable four-color waving flag? It seems that quarter of a century and the biggest reinvention of the Windows operating system, have finally brought change and Microsoft has now unveiled a brand new logo that is… pretty much the same.

Except it’s not a waving flag, but one big rectangle consisting of four separate tiles, a red, green, blue and yellow one. Right next to the flag, we have the name of the company Microsoft in grey. And that’s it, simple, just as the interface ideas in the new modern user interface in Windows 8 (don’t call it Metro, Microsoft dropped that name for fear of lawsuits).

The new logo is put together with the intention to “signal the heritage but also signal the future — a newness and freshness,” Microsoft’s Jeff Hansen explained.

Expect to see the new logo all across the plethora of devices running Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, as well as on Microsoft’s new Office products.

What do you think, how do you like it?
