Apple to cram a high res screen in the next iPad mini say backlighting industry sources

Not that it comes as a huge surprise, but “Taiwan-based backlighting industry sources” have reconfirmed that Apple is testing higher resolution screens for the next iteration of the iPad mini.

If it is chasing the Retina Display moniker again, Apple would have to put a larger battery and beefier graphics, which would make it much harder to produce a slate as thin and light as the current iPad mini.

The sources, however, also mentioned that for the next-gen iPad Apple is striving for one LED light bar instead of two, which will reduce the weight, so Cupertino might have something similar planned for the 2013 iPad mini as well, to achieve a higher resolution in the same slender package.
