CommBadge gives you a Star Trek: TNG experience…almost

Tired of plugging a Bluetooth earpiece into your head? The CommBadge is a wearable Bluetooth speakerphone designed to work with Android devices and the iPhone. No doubt it will be a welcome accessory for those who are tired of poorly fitting earpieces.

It is activated the same way the crewmembers from Star Trek: The Next Generation would activate their chest mounted communicators. The CommBadge will come in three trim levels: CommBadge Classic, CommBadge and CommBadge+. The Classic model is the Bluetooth speaker with clip. The middle trim incorporates an ID holder for business users and the CommBadge+ adds a retractable lanyard. Retail prices are expected to begin at about $95.

The device will be able access Siri or Google Now and perhaps the coolest feature about it is how it helps prevent your conversations from being put on public display. The speaker is designed to provide clean sound to the wearer, but beyond a distance of about one foot, the sound waves will sound scrambled. People will be able to tell you are on a call, but they will not be able to hear your better half griping about forgetting to pick up some milk on the way home. The speaker also functions as a tether, so it can alert you if you leave your phone somewhere and it gets disconnected. There will be companion iOS and Android apps available to customize the CommBadge to work the way you want it to.

The CommBadge is charged via micro USB and battery life is claimed to last a full day on average. The product as you might expect is in the prototype phase and CommBadge is looking to crowd fund the project to get production going.

So, if you are tired of Bluetooth earpieces constantly not fitting correctly in your ear, the CommBadge may be just what you are looking for. Check out the video and source link below…engage.

Apple iPad mini shortage to be alleviated by using another panel vendor

Apple iPad mini shortage to be alleviated by using another panel vendor

Apple has had problems matching up demand and supply with the Apple iPad mini. New orders for the 7.9 inch tablet are taking two weeks to ship, and besides the heavy demand, part of the problem is with one of Apple’s vendors. According to Digitimes, panels for the Apple iPad mini being produced by Taiwan based AU Optronics are coming in with poor yields which obviously limits the number of finished tablets available to be sold.

Workers producing panels at an AU Optronics factory

Besides AU Optronics, LG Display also provides panels for the Apple iPad mini. Because of the problem AU Optronics has had with yield, industry sources expect the Cupertino based manufacturer to ship a cumulative total of 6 to 8 million units of the Apple iPad mini by the end of the year. These same sources had originally forecast 10 million iPad mini shipments this year, but the fourth quarter has been seriously impacted by AU Optronics. The latter says that it will have corrected the problem in time for the company to have “sufficient yield” by the first quarter of next year.

Not taking any chances, there is talk that Apple is looking at a third panel supplier. The sources didn’t mention the name of the company that Apple is thinking about adding as a vendor, but did say that it is believed to be a Taiwan based firm. Remember, until we hear directly from Apple on this matter, you know to take this with a grain of salt.

HTC One VX for AT T should finally be available December 7th

HTC One VX for AT&T should finally be available December 7th

Earlier in November we got word from the horse’s mouth (in this case AT&T) that the HTC One X+ and its middle-spec cousin, the HTC One VX would be available November 16th, with pre-orders beginning earlier in that week.

The One X+ made it out of the gate, but there was no sight or sound of the One VX. Either it was left at the stable or something else was afoot. Unfortunately, no word was forthcoming from AT&T as to what happened. However, a spokesperson informed the folks over at Android Central that all channels (stores, agents, online) will be fully stocked by December 7th.

We could speculate on all sorts of reasons, but rather than throw every theory at the wall to see what sticks, we will take the high-road of hope and hypothesize that the delay was to ensure the handset delivered with Android 4.1 or 4.2 Jelly Bean. This is, of course, just speculation. The real reason for the delay is probably due to a far more practical issue, like supplier hold-ups. So, do not hold us to it.

Spec-wise, there are certainly some features that position the One VX as a middle-of-the-road Android handset. However, if you saw our video hands-on with this device, you would notice that our initial impressions of the handset were pretty positive. Since AT&T has the One X+ priced at $199.99 on a two-year contract, we are eager to learn what the price point of the handsome One VX will be once it is available.

New Google TV device visits the FCC the ASUS Qube

New Google TV device visits the FCC, the ASUS Qube

Some new hardware paid a visit to the FCC. “Qube with Google TV Dongle” is headed prominently on the labeling schematic, so it is no mystery what the intended use is for this component.

Being designated a “dongle” certainly means it will simply plug into a Smart TV set-top box or computer and provide Google TV connectivity. It will be controlled by O!Mobile Control Center, which was developed by ASUS and available for Android devices running Android 2.1 or higher. The control is handled via 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

Outside of the copious amount of information in the FCC documents, what we do not know is when this will be available, and how it will be available, either as a stand-alone or as part of an equipment or accessory bundle.

T-Moble posts My Account app for BlackBerry 10

It looks like T-Mobile will be one of the carriers to believe in BlackBerry 10 from the start. We know this because the carrier has already put up a T-Mobile My Account app for BlackBerry 10. The app, available from BlackBerry App World, will help T-Mobile customers view and manage an account that is attached to a BlackBerry 10 device. You can also set alarms and reminders to help you optimize the battery on the phone. We wonder if that is a bad sign for the battery on BB10 that one of the features of the app is battery life management. The app is free.

THe app will run on the first BB10 All-Touch devices

THe app will run on the first BB10 All-Touch devices

We’re not sure if T-Mobile simply ported over their Android app or if this is a native BB app. Not only is it free to install, but time spent on it will not count against the minutes on your data plan. It’s a win-win situation. The app will work with the BlackBerry 10 All-Touch device and the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device. As we told you recently, RIM is looking to roll out the Dev Alpha “C” model and also says it will exchange those developer phones for a limited edition BlackBerry 10 handset for those who are building apps for the new platform.

So, T-Mobile customers, all signs point toward you getting in on the ground floor with BlackBerry 10. How does that make you feel?

Windows Phone says youre on Santas nice list

Windows Phone says you’re on Santa’s nice list

Just days after Bumble the Abominable Snowman scores a date with a cute little red-head, and one week before Christmas, Santa is gearing up for a pool party with the crew before the big night of delivering toys. As the boss elf is reporting things are ahead of schedule, Santa consults his Windows Phone where the “Naughty or Nice Live App” reports that thousands of children have earned a spot on the “nice” list.

The party is canceled and Santa being the good manager he is reports to the elves that more toys are needed. The elves get the update on their Windows Phones and rejoice in having more work heaped on them. Unfortunately, we could not find any Naughty or Nice app in the Windows Phone Store, but we are certain that you are all on the nice list.

Gmail and YouTube coming to Verizon Note II multi-window mode soon

If you’ve got a Samsung Galaxy Note II and you’ve been enjoying the multi-window mode, but you wanted a bit more out of it, you’re in luck. Samsung has confirmed that there will be an update soon to add support for the Gmail and YouTube apps in multi-window mode for the Verizon variant of the handset, which has not yet gotten the update.

Gmail and YouTube coming to Verizon Note II multi-window mode soon

The news comes directly from Samsung’s USA support team, which replied to a question about it on Twitter. The answer was brief (as is the nature of Twitter), but direct, saying ““That feature will be available soon, please stay tuned for updates.” So, Samsung is apparently working on adding more app support to the multi-window mode on the Verizon Note II, but no more is known.

And, of course, it’s also hard to say what exactly “soon” means. Depending on the topic and the company making the statement, “soon” could be anywhere from a couple weeks to about 6 months, and especially when Verizon is involved in an Android update, you never know how long “testing” can take.

HTC confirms low-end 8S not planned for the US

If you were looking for a low-end Windows Phone 8 experience from HTC, it looks like you may be out of luck, because HTC has confirmed that the HTC 8S is not planned for release in the USA. The logic behind the move makes some sense though, because Windows Phone 8 devices have already launched at a very competitive price point.

The premier Windows Phone handsets like the HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 launched at just $99, so it’s hard to imagine that HTC would want to take away from those sales with a phone that would likely be given away free on-contract like the 8S. HTC said as much, but in a much more PR-friendly way by telling Engadget, “With our focus on the Windows Phone 8X by HTC, the Windows Phone 8S is not currently planned for distribution in the U.S. market.”

HTC DROID DNA gets all in one toolkit

HTC DROID DNA gets all-in-one toolkit

So, you’ve got the brand-new and amazing HTC DROID DNA. What’s the first thing you want to do with it when you get it home? Root it and mod it, of course! Well, that wish just got a whole lot easier with a new all-in-one toolkit to automate all of those tasks. We’re hoping that this is a trend that continues, because the all-in-one toolkits for Google’s Nexus devices make everything quite easy.

HTC DROID DNA gets all-in-one toolkit

Of course, the DROID DNA is not a Nexus device, so there are some limitations, like the fact that you cannot re-lock your bootloader once it is unlocked, so be sure that’s what you want to do before you do it. But, as a bonus, the DROID DNA toolkit has a full GUI, unlike the command-line toolkits for Nexus devices. The toolkit will let you do useful stuff like rooting, flashing custom recovery, flashing a new kernel, or backing up your device. If you’re a developer there are also nice options to register with HTCDev, and get or submit token IDs.

As usual with toolkits, it is only available for Windows. Of course, right now, unless you’re a developer there may not be much to do other than root, because the HTC DROID DNA source code was just released today, so there are no custom ROMs just yet.

Samsung may deliver flexible displays as soon as next year

Samsung may deliver flexible displays as soon as next year

We’ve been hearing promises and seeing demos of flexible displays for a while now. So long that it seems as though the tech may never arrive, but a new report is saying that we could actually see flexible displays as soon as next year, and that Samsung could be leading the pack, at least that’s what the BBC is saying.

Samsung is obviously not the only company working on the technology. LG, Philips, Sharp, Sony and Nokia are all working on flexible displays, but the word is that Samsung will be the first to actually ship the displays in products, and it could happen next year. According to the report, LG has already begun mass producing flexible e-ink displays, but Samsung could be the first to make a flexible smartphone display, likely using Samsung’s favorite OLED tech.

Of course, we still don’t have flexible motherboards, or flexible batteries, so don’t expect fully flexible phones just yet. But, flexible displays would definitely end that whole problem that we saw with the iPhone 4/4S, and that the Nexus 4 is having with cracked glass. Flexible displays are said to be virtually unbreakable.

Facebook rolling out Photo Sync on Android and iOS

Facebook rolling out Photo Sync on Android and iOS

We had heard back in September that the feature would be coming, and Facebook has finally announced the official rollout. Photo Sync is finally coming to mobile devices. The rollout of the feature starts today and should hit your Android or iOS device soon. The feature is one that we’ve seen before. Google+ started the automatic upload trend in its Android app, and the feature has spread. Now, Dropbox and others also offer automatic photo uploading.

Facebook’s Photo Sync will work just like Instant Upload from G+, which means that the photos you take on your mobile phone will be automatically uploaded to a private album to make it easier to then share with friends. None of the automatically uploaded images will be made public or shared without your consent, but we should mention that Facebook does take a broad copyright license on your content, and no meme post can stop that. So, just be careful with your data.

The Photo Sync feature will be rolling out soon, and will not be turned on automatically. You’ll have to go into your Facebook app settings to turn it on, and then the Photos section of the app will have a new “Synced” tab to view your uploaded photos.

Specs leak that may be the 99 Nexus 7

Specs leak that may be the $99 Nexus 7

Right off the bat, let’s say that the news that is to follow is extremely suspect, and nowhere near fact. As we all know, one of the easiest things in the world to fake is the info you find attached to benchmark tests (which is a major reason why we don’t believe for a second that there’s really a Sony device out there running Android 5.0). Still, there is a new device that has popped up that may be the $99 Nexus 7, specs and all.

The info comes from GL Benchmark, and shows a tablet labeled as “ME172V”, which is said to be an ASUS tablet. If this is really the Nexus 7 built to hit the $99 price point, it is listed as having a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution display, 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and a 4270mAh battery. However, there are a couple odd things about the listing.

First of all, the tablet is listed as running Android 4.1.1, which is a bit old for a Nexus device. It’s not even the latest incremental 4.1 update, let alone 4.2 or 4.2.1. The second oddity is that the tablet is listed as having an SD card slot, which is something Google has been moving away from with recent Nexus releases.

Android 4.1 coming next week to Motorola DROID RAZR HD and Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD

According to Verizon, the Motorola DROID RAZR HD and Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD are both receiving Android 4.1 next week. Verizon suggests that you budget about 10-15 minutes to complete the download. Installation will take another 10-15 minutes during which you will not be able to use your phone at all. The size of the update is 276MB.

Jelly Bean is coming to two Motorola models at Verizon

Jelly Bean is coming to two Motorola models at Verizon

So what are some of the features you will get from the update? Expandable Notifications which allows you to take action directly from the notification panel. Send emails, return calls, share pictures and more with this time-saving feature. The Smart Keyboard on Jelly Beans is so smart, it knows the next word you’re going to type before you do. Well, not really. But it does predict with a high degree of accuracy the next word you are going to type. Voice typing can now be done even when your phone is offline.
.
And what can we say about Google Now? This feature knows the information you need and when you need it. While drinking that decaf in the morning, Google Now has shown you the traffic on your morning commute, if you will need to take an umbrella with you, and the point spread for Sunday’s NFL games so that you can call Cookie the bookie to make your bets Google Now Cards keep popping up throughout the day.

Both phones were released October 18th probably making this the quickest that any Motorola phone has ever been updated on Verizon.

Fourth generation Apple iPad and Apple iPad mini coming to China with Apple iPhone 5

Fourth-generation Apple iPad and Apple iPad mini coming to China with Apple iPhone 5

Earlier on Friday, we told you that the Apple iPhone 5 had been cleared for release on China Telecom after Apple received its “network access license”. China Telecom, as we pointed out, is the third largest carrier in the country. We now have a good idea when to expect the actual launch of the iPhone 5 in China. Apple has announced that on December 14th, the 6th generation of Apple’s iconic smartphone will be arriving at the world’s largest smartphone market.

The fourth-generation Apple iPad is coming to China on December 7th

The fourth-generation Apple iPad is coming to China on December 7th

Unfortunately for Apple, the largest carrier in the world, China Mobile, has a proprietary 3G network which doesn’t work with the Apple iPhone. Both Apple and the carrier have been in talks for some time and with 200,000 LTE subscribers expected next year, it might be 2013 when Apple can offer its best selling device to the customers of the largest carrier on earth.

Exactly one week before the Apple iPhone 5 hits the ground in China, the fourth-generation of the Apple iPad and the Apple iPad mini will be launched in the country. Both will be the Wi-Fi only models and it is not known when-or even if-the Wi-Fi+cellular models will be coming to China. All three devices will be available from Apple Stores, authorized resellers and can be bought online from Apple’s web site. The day before launch, buyers can make reservations for a next-day pick up from 9am to 5pm. Apple instituted this system in a few countries where scalping of its devices has become a problem.

Adding China, the Apple iPhone 5 is now available in 47 countries with 42 selling the latest two Apple iPads.

Nokia job listing hints at Android in the future

Nokia job listing hints at Android in the future

This could be nothing, but it could be that Nokia is looking for a backup plan in case Windows Phone doesn’t pan out. At least that’s the best guess for why Nokia had posted a job listing that made it sound like Android might be in the future. As of now, it’s just guesswork, but to be fair, we don’t really know if there is a timeline attached to the Nokia/Microsoft partnership.

This all comes from the fact that Nokia had posted a job listing on LinkedIn for a “Principal Software Engineer, Embedded Linux Middleware”. Hiring someone to oversee “embedded Linux device software and hardware drivers for our exciting new products” wouldn’t be all that telling for some companies, but Nokia only makes smartphones. Had Nokia been a manufacturer that built TVs, it could mean something else, but in the smartphone world, the only Linux-based embedded systems of note are Android and webOS.

It’s hard to imagine Nokia putting resources into webOS, so that really just leaves Android. The listing has been made inactive since the first reports came out, so it’s hard to say if anything will come of it, but we’ll keep an eye out.

Sharp Aquos SH930W will launch in Hong Kong as well as in Russia; device offers 5 inch, 1080p screen

We’ve already told you all about the Sharp Aquos SH930W which is Sharp’s entry in the 5 inch smartphone market. Not only has Sharp matched the HTC DROID DNA with a similar 5 inch, 1080p display protected by Gorilla Glass, but both phones have the same 441ppi pixel density. We’ve already passed along the word that the phone will be released in Russia, and on Friday Sharp added Hong Kong to the itinerary. In Hong Kong the phone will cost 4,488 HKD which is roughly $580 USD. In Russia, the Sharp Aquos SH930W will be priced at 21,990 Rubles ($713 USD).

The rest of the specs on the device include a somewhat disappointing dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor (MSM8960?) under the hood. But Sharp rights itself with the inclusion of 2GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. An 8MP camera is on back while a 2MP shooter on front is just the thing for those self-portraits and video chats. A 2100mAh battery powers the handset and Android 4.1 will be installed out of the box. The unit is just 9.1mm thick. A couple of weeks ago, we showed you a comparison of the screen on the Sharp model vs. a couple of high-end models like the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S III.

Sharp has come up with its own charts comparing the Sharp Aquos SH930W with other models, again using the Samsung Galaxy S III, but this time adding the HTC One X+, the Samsung GALAXY Note II, and the LG Optimus Vu. While the phone isn’t expected to come to the U.S., this could be an indication of where the market for Android phones is going in 2013. 5 inch screens with full HD resolution seem to be where the OEMs are heading. And to put the period on the statement, all indications are that the Samsung Galaxy S IV will be in the 5 inch club as well.

Apple testing carriers if their LTE networks are good enough for the iPhone 5 not the other way around

Apple testing carriers if their LTE networks are good enough for the iPhone 5, not the other way around

It turns out that Apple, which is probably the only manufacturer in the world that doesn’t allow a second logo (that of the carrier) to appear on its phones, is also taking its time to test if a carrier’s LTE network is really good enough for its iPhone 5. Usually, it’s the other way around, with carriers testing if manufacturer handsets are fast enough.

This info comes courtesy of the spokesperson of carrier Swisscom, who has confirmed that Apple only activates the 4G LTE connectivity features of the iPhone 5 once it has ensured that the network is up to the task. The result of this is that Swisscom, which has recently launched its 4G network, wasn’t able to activate 4G on the iPhone 5 right away, because Apple had to finish its testing first. This practice is surely annoying the carriers around the world, but it looks like Apple is in the position to do it. Of course, Apple is doing this for its own good (and for its customers’ good), but we can imagine that if we were a carrier, we’d probably want to punch Apple in the face for doing this to us! On the other hand, if you are a carrier, Apple is probably better than no-Apple, so we guess it’s a necessary evil.

Best new Android iPhone and iPad games for November 2012 part 1

Best new Android, iPhone and iPad games for November 2012 (part 1)

November is probably the busiest month of the year for smartphones and tablets, and it’s not just about new devices flooding the market – we were swamped with games from all sides, and for the first time this year we had to actually split our game selection in two parts. It was just too large to fit a single article!

With November’s best new Android, iPhone and iPad games we are also just one step away from closing the year and we can’t wait to take a look back at the best mobile games released this past year.

But before that – November’s Android and iOS new games. Most of the games you’d see below are available on both platforms, but it is clear that the iOS App Store still gets newest games earlier and often exclusively. In November developers preferred to developer for both major platforms, but if they had to pick one exclusively that was iOS. Android is catching up, but it’s not yet there for games, especially for experimental new titles targeted at the U.S. market.

With no further ado, check out all the new Android, iPad and iPhone games for November right below, and don’t hesitate to let us know which one is your favorite in the comments section!

Nokia Lumia 820 gets stepped on in this advertisement

Nokia Lumia 820 gets stepped on in this advertisement

It is believed that Nokia phones don’t break easily. Even the Lumia 920 flagship smartphone is tougher than your ordinary modern handset, as those torture tests we’ve been writing about demonstrate. But what about its little brother – the Nokia Lumia 820?

Well, if this advertisement is to be trusted, the Lumia 820 is pretty much as durable as its high-end counterpart. It gets dropped and stepped on, seemingly without taking any damage. At the same time, another handset that the lady lab worker is testing â€“ a handset that looks suspiciously similar to an iPhone, cracks at the slightest touch.

Of course, that’s all made up, but the advertisement itself is pretty neat, so check it out and tell us what you think about all that. Could a Nokia Lumia 820 really be more durable than an iPhone?

Nokia launches a photo-sharing app for WP8, calls it PhotoBeamer

Nokia has added yet another app to its portfolio of WP8 exclusives. Actually, this time the app is exclusive to the Lumia 920 and 820, which is a shame, because it seems kind of cool.

Courtesy of its acquisition of imaging company Scalado, Nokia is bringing you PhotoBeamer – an innovative photo-sharing app. Here’s how it works: you start PhotoBeamer on your phone, then open the PhotoBeamer.com website on whichever device you want to stream the photos to. Let’s say you want to view the images on your desktop computer. So you navigate to the PhotoBeamer.com site, which will show a large QR code. You use the PhotoBeamer app on your phone to scan that QR code, and the next moment, you’ll see your photos seamlessly streamed to your big desktop screen. Cool, isn’t it? It seems like a really fast way to display photos on a web-connected device with a large screen.

If you own a Lumia 920 or 820, you can download PhotoBeamer here.

Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade will come to Android and iOS eventually

Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade will come to Android and iOS eventually

Two crystals were protecting the country until one was shattered to pieces when the monsters invaded. The ancient summon beasts, however, can restore the crystals’ original power, but only if a worthy hero stands before them. That, in a nutshell, is the story in Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade – an RPG that gamers in Japan and South Korea are already enjoying.

But what about folks across the ocean? Are they going to get some Final Fantasy love too? Yes, as it turns out, because Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade is coming to iOS and Android. As is tradition with FF games, the player will be sent on a quest, laying waste to enemies and looting treasure chests along the way. However, the new game has a stronger focus on social interaction. Also, players will be given airships to travel with, which is an interesting twist to the RPG’s game mechanics.

Unlike Final Fantasy III, which costs $16 dollars to download from the Google Play store, Airborne Brigade will be free to play, although there surely will be some kind of in-app purchases. There are no details yet as to when exactly the new Final Fantasy game will be released for U.S. gamers, but those who are interested can visit its official web site and subscribe for news and updates.

This is Lumia light show seen by thousands live in London

For the second straight year, Canadian performer and DJ deadmau5 lit up the dark skies of London with a light show to promote the latest Nokia Lumia models, the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820. This year’s event included a concert that was held at the Electric Brixton following the light show. Last year’s celebration was for the Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710 and was held at the Millbank Tower in London.

Will the Nokia Lumia 920 take Windows Phone 8 to new heights?

Will the Nokia Lumia 920 take Windows Phone 8 to new heights?

Nokia said that thousands showed up for the event which was also streamed to the rest of the world. The Nokia Lumia 920 is off to a great start, having been sold out already in some countries. Nokia has high hopes for the handset. Just the other day, we passed along a video from the phone’s designer that explained some of the thought process that went into the design of the Windows Phone 8 powered model.

Those who would like to see Windows Phone 8 make a move on Android and Apple have been looking for the one breakout device that would catapult the platform into the mainstream and beyond the same way that the Motorola DROID did for Android only three years ago. It would appear from all indications that the Nokia Lumia 920 will be the candidate. Whether or not it can do for Windows Phone 8 what the OG DROID did for Android is another matter although at least one analyst sees it coming.

HTC HD2 hacked again gets a taste of Windows Phone 8

HTC HD2 hacked again, gets a taste of Windows Phone 8

The HTC HD2 – a smartphone released no less than three years ago, has been subjected to more than a few hacks since the day of its arrival. Although the device was launched running the now-obsolete Windows Mobile 6.5, developers have managed to flash several Windows Phone 7 flavors on it. Even an Android ROM based on Jelly Bean was developed earlier this year.

But perhaps this most recent hack tops all of the above. The developers at Dark Force Team got Windows Phone 8 running on the HTC HD2, albeit to a limited extent, and the photos you see below were posted on Twitter as proof. As you might expect, there are many things that don’t work, but the hack demonstrates that even relatively old hardware may be capable of handling Windows Phone 8. In case you need a refresher, the HTC HD2 has a 1GHz single-core Snapdragon S1 chip with Adreno 200 graphics and 448MB of RAM.

The DFT team notes that their hack is just a “proof-of-concept”, though, so don’t expect a fully-working Windows Phone 8 ROM to be released for the HTC HD2 anytime soon.

Nuns are on offense in Nun Attack for Android and iOS

Nuns are on offense in Nun Attack for Android and iOS

A new game for Android and iOS may change our understanding of nuns – those peacefully living religious women. Well, it turns out some of them might not be that peaceful, or at least that’s what Nun Attack is trying to convey.

The game let’s you take control of 4 nuns: Eva, sister of guidance; Rosy, sister of deliverance; Olga, sister of protection; and Mandy, sister of holiness. Evil’s probably most afraid of Olga, as her biceps are bigger than those of a California governor, and she likes to spit on the ground before reloading her weapon. Scary stuff, we tell you. The story goes like this: once a good sister, sister Mortanna has become a bad sister, and now she’s spawning all kinds of vile creatures to wreck havoc. She obviously needs to be stopped, and that’s what you and the four sisters will be fighting for. In addition to just blasting enemies with weapons, you will also have the option to perform miracle in order to aid your nuns in battle.

Nun Attack for Android is free, while iOS gamers will have to shell out $0.99.

Samsung Galaxy Camera with LTE supposedly headed to Verizon

Samsung Galaxy Camera with LTE supposedly headed to Verizon

Whether you like the idea or not, Android-based cameras are now something you can buy. The $350 Nikon Coolpix S800c, for example, was announced back in August, while AT&T is selling the Samsung Galaxy Camera for $500. Buying the latter model will also mean you’ll be getting cellular connectivity on the device via the carrier’s cellular data network, so you’ll be able to surf the web or download apps.

However, AT&T might not be the only U.S. carrier interested in the Samsung Galaxy Camera. The device just appeared at the FCC with support for Verizon LTE bands. This, of course, does not guarantee that Big Red will launch it, but it definitely raises the chances of that happening in the near future.

For those who need a refresher, the Samsung Galaxy Camera is a 16MP point-and-shoot with 21x optical zoom running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It is powered by a quad-core processor and on its back resides a 4.8-inch touchscreen. You can’t use it to make phone calls, but the Google Play software catalog is at your disposal.

HTC releases the source code of the DROID DNA

HTC releases the source code of the DROID DNA

Developers who would like to tinker with the software of the DROID DNA can now easily do so, as HTC has released the source code of its monstrous smartphone.

Naturally, the source code is based on Android 4.1, and should prove to be pretty useful for custom ROM developers. The code can be downloaded from HTC’s own HTCDev site, which can be found as a source link below this post.

The DROID DNA is one of the best Android phones money can buy right now, being equipped with spectacular features such as a powerful quad-core processor, the Snapdragon S4 Pro, as well as an ultra-high resolution display at 1080 x 1920 pixels.

Specs for Microsoft Surface RT 2 and Surface Pro 2 rumored

Specs for Microsoft Surface RT 2 and Surface Pro 2 rumored

Although the Microsoft Surface RT is still a newcomer to the tablet scene, while the Pro Surface model is yet to be released, their maker is said to be working on their successors already, if a recent rumor is to be believed. Now, before you ignore this post in disbelief, allow us to point out that the source of the said rumor is the (usually) well-informed MS_Nerd.

He tweets that the Microsoft Surface RT 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) will be smaller â€“ with a 8.6-inch display of unknown resolution. Interesting choice, we have to add, because that would place the device right in between the two well-established tablet categories, namely that of the affordable 7-inchers and the pricier 10-or-so-inch slates. Is Microsoft aiming to give us the best of both worlds with the RT 2? While the current model is powered by a Tegra 3 chipset, the second-gen RT tablet will sport a Qualcomm SoC, according to MS_Nerd.

The second Microsoft Surface Pro model will supposedly use a different chip as well. It is said that the Intel Core i5 silicon will be ditched in favor of an “upcoming and yet-to-be-released AMD ‘Temash’ APU”. AMD’s Temash lineup is scheduled to launch in 2013 and will feature at least two 28nm CPUs along with a graphics unit on a single chip. The screen on the second-gen Surface Pro tablet will be a bit bigger at 11.6-inches.

But wait, that’s not all! The tipster claims that a third Surface device is on the way. The Surface Book, as it will allegedly be called, will have a 14.6-inch screen and a 22nm “Haswell” chip by Intel. According to leaked roadmaps, these chips will be released during the second quarter of 2013.

Of course, you should keep in mind that all you just read is a load of rumors. Still, we’ll let you know in case anything else regarding the future of Surface tablets leaks on the web.

Surface Pro to have half the battery life of the RT version

Surface Pro to have half the battery life of the RT version

Well, you can’t have both a full-fledged desktop operating system and terrific battery life, right? Right. And by the looks of it, Microsoft won’t be trying to change that with its Surface tablet, powered by Windows 8 Pro.

According to some unofficial reports, the Surface Pro tablet is likely to offer about half the battery life of its RT counterpart. Of course, no one should have expected the Intel-powered Surface running full-featured Windows to be as power-efficient as the ARM-based Surface RT, so we guess there won’t be too many disappointed. Besides, if you choose to pair your Surface Pro with a keyboard dock, you end up with a real laptop, and you know how good laptops are with regards to battery life. Still, it might not be a bad idea for Microsoft to take a page out of Asus’s book here and comes up with a keyboard dock that also incorporates an additional battery.

That said, with the Surface RT sporting a battery life close to 8-10 hours on average, the Surface Pro may easily hover around the 4-5 hours mark. Not that bad, but not great either.

Google Nexus 4 sellers face restrictions on eBay

Google Nexus 4 sellers face restrictions on eBay

With the 16GB Google Nexus 4 taking as long as 6-7 weeks to arrive from the Google Play Store, and with carriers and retailers just about all sold out of the heavily in-demand smartphone, those who absolutely need the handset are turning to the one place where demand meets supply, eBay. The 16GB SIM free Google Nexus 4, a device that costs $349 on the Google Play Store (when in stock) or $499 at T-Mobile, was recently priced at $649.99 by an eBay seller. Since then, the Google Play Store again had a successful sale of the phone and the same eBay seller is now asking $699.99 for the same device. It’s a perfect example of supply-demand in practice. So far, this seller has rung up 36 units and has just three remaining.

But sellers like this one will soon have to adhere to some new rules as the auction site has added restrictions to the posting of Google Nexus 4 units for sale, thanks to the high number of units that have been sold. Authorized resellers will have no restriction on the number of units they put up for bidding or outright sales each week. Top-Rated Sellers will be able to offer 8 units weekly, which would seem to take the air out of a lot of balloons belonging to marginal sellers. Sellers meeting minimum performance standards will be allowed to offer 4 units weekly and new sellers that have confirmed certain personal information will be able to sell 1 unit per week.

The red-hot Google Nexus 4

Ebay will not allow those who fail to confirm their personal information, or meet minimum performance standards to list the Google Nexus 4. And those selling Google Nexus 4 related domain names will be allowed up to 4 listings per week. It is all about keeping the scammers from taking advantage of a device that it is in extremely high demand during the holiday season, to rip off an unsuspecting and gullible public. If you are planning to buy the latest stock Android smartphone on eBay, you cannot simply go by a seller’s rating.

One eBay expert told us that some eBay criminals have been known to steal the identity of a highly rated eBay seller in order to trick the public. And remember, the current “Buy It Now” prices are around $350 higher than Google is charging for the 16GB variant, and is even $200 higher than T-Mobile’s price. If you plan to give the phone out as a holiday gift, you might have no choice but to pay up for the model, or switch to a different phone. For $649, you could purchase an unlocked 16GB Apple iPhone 5 or the HTC DROID DNA for $599.99 to name a couple of cheaper off-contract phones.
